The Char Dham Yatra is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage in Uttarakhand, covering four holy shrines in the Himalayas: Yamunotri Temple, Gangotri Temple, Kedarnath Temple, and Badrinath Temple. It usually begins from Haridwar or Rishikesh and follows a traditional route: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Yamunotri and Kedarnath require short treks, while Gangotri and Badrinath are accessible by road. The journey typically takes 10–12 days and is best undertaken between May–June or September–October, avoiding the monsoon season. Spiritually, the yatra is believed to cleanse sins and lead to moksha (liberation). The temples are dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, Goddess Ganga, Lord Shiva, and Lord Vishnu, representing different divine energies. Pilgrims should be prepared for high altitudes, cold weather, and basic travel conditions.
